Integral development for emerging leaders (IDEL)

The facts- What is IDEL?

  • IDEL is an experiential leadership program to assist millennials (& purpose-driven change makers of any generation) in being effective & innovative leaders, equipped & inspired to navigate the increased complexities of this era & what's to come.

Why was IDEL created?

  • Unprecedented global phenomena like climate change, major technology & workforce shifts, etc., can be difficult to talk about. And can be confusing, scary- and hence all too easy to avoid. Or to go into "fight or flight" in discussing- blind pessimism (there's no hope), or blind optimism (we don't have to pay attention- it's all fine).

Our premise is that being able to not only surf those shifts, but arrive at our own compelling solutions-- to "future proof" our leaders-- requires skillfulness with the highly dynamic human level of leadership (“inner competencies”), to align with the technical needs (“external competencies”) required for that specific person.

What does the “inner work” mean?

The “inner work” means the dynamic, human level beyond our technical capacities. Whatever the specific industry/job/ application, what we do is not the only question anymore. Now, effective solutions require skillfulness around how we are doing it, who we're being as we're doing it, and whose perspective & experience is included and how.

So you’re telling me we gotta chance?

Historically, humans have often been able to rise to meet significant global challenges- the ozone layer crisis, for example. But creative solutions are only possible if we're open to being sober with what is, and discern what meaningful action looks like.

All the leadership skills we've learned up until now will be necessary. But not sufficient. We're emerging into a reality that previous generations did not face, where a 10 or even 5 year plan is marked by some unforeseeable possibilities.

Why you all?

No one has "the" answers, and no prophet or scholar or visionary can know what’s to come. But a long-term commitment to such questions has created insight as to what embodied leadership- not just words or ideas- might look like. We are all needed, each with our own flavor, vantage point, hopes and doubts, insight and experience. We've accumulated a host of helpful tools along the way to support leaders doing so elegantly, powerfully, and efficiently.
